Sustainable Snowies Successful Projects
EPA Community Litter Grant - Sustainable Snowies Litter Prevention Project
In December 2020 Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce and Sustainable Snowies were successful recipients of the EPA Community Litter grant to tackle litter in the Snowy region. This project was completed in October 2021.
During the project extensive research was carried out to determine historical and current litter volumes and patterns in the Snowy Mountains. Through litter audits and surveys of community members and Sustainable Snowies stakeholders, it has been observed that one of the biggest environmental challenges faced by the region is management of litter.
The project was led by a Litter Prevention Project Officer who trialed and refined a local region's Litter Prevention strategy, engaged with a diverse stakeholder group to develop a toolbox of resources for regional litter prevention plans. At the conclusion of the project, the partnering organisations established targets and commit resources to systematically reduce litter using evidence-based approaches, ensuring long term coordinated litter prevention outcomes across the Snowy Mountain region.
Sustainable Snowies Litter Prevention Strategy and its accompanying Action Plan aims to reduce the amount of litter in the Snowy Mountains by developing a compelling business case presenting evidence that litter is an issue in the region, providing a comprehensive list of recommendations to implement and to set up the framework for an ongoing cohesive and measurable strategy towards litter prevention in the region.
This project is a NSW Environment Protection Authority, Waste Less Recycle More Initiative funded from the Waste Levy.
Launch of Green Caffeen - August 2020
Snowy Monaro Regional Council financially contributed, along with National Parks and Wildlife Service, Kosciuszko Thredbo, Perisher and Charlottes Pass, and partnered with Green Caffeen to revolutionise our takeaway coffee culture and help save the planet.

Over 700 cafés around Australia are already on board. Our region has Green Caffeen Cafés in Berridale, Cooma, Jindabyne, Michelago, Nimmitabel, Perisher and Thredbo.
