Governments, businesses and the local community are often dealing with similar issues when it comes to sustainability and managing people in a fragile environment.
When people work together to share ideas and look for opportunities for collaboration, achievements can be much greater.
Sustainable Snowies is all about working together to achieve more.
The Sustainable Snowies group was established in 2019, with the aim of improving sustainability in our region by working collaboratively, sharing ideas and implementing on-ground projects.
Check out Sustainable Snowies facebook page @sustainablesnowies for more information and upcoming initiatives and projects.
Projects identified at the group’s inception include initiatives to:
Reduce use of single-use plastics such as disposable coffee cups, water bottles and packaging
Reduce littering within the Snowy Mountains
Promote messages to Snowy Mountain businesses, government and the community about a range of practical measures to improve sustainability
The Sustainable Snowies group will work towards development and implementation of a Regional Sustainability Strategy in order to:
Ensure that all important sustainability issues are being addressed
Work towards broader implementation of sustainability actions
Help embed sustainability planning in the Region

Did you know that over 1.2 billion disposable coffee cups are used each year in Australia, 90% of which end up in landfill or as litter?
Snowy Monaro Regional Council has financially contributed, along with National Parks and Wildlife Service, Kosciuszko Thredbo, Perisher and Charlottes Pass, and partnered with Green Caffeen to revolutionise our takeaway coffee culture and help save the planet.
Over 500 cafés around Australia are already on board. Our region now has green cafés in Berridale, Jindabyne, Perisher and Thredbo.
