Fishing in freshwater streams provides a unique opportunity to many visitors of the Snowy Monaro region. Fishing is available year round in many of the lakes including Lake Eucumbene and Lake Jindabyne. The Bombala River is famous for its trout fishing spots, and of course is a well known platypus habitat.

During the Summer months NSW fisheries opens up the streams and rivers for fly fishing and locals and visitors have the opportunity to fish Trout and Salmon which are aided by the one of the premier trout hatcheries in NSW Gaden Trout Hatchery. Fishing licenses are required for all types of fishing and guided tours are available from a number of local businesses.
