“Reduce” refers to reducing your use of resources like clean water, electricity, fuel and paper. Did you know that around 60% of council’s electricity use is in water and sewer operations (amounting to >$430,000). Electricity used in this area is directly related to community water use – so saving water saves council money and greenhouse emissions.
See how community water use varies and impacts electricity use on Council's Monitoring web page. You can find out more about water saving by checking out the Saving Water link on the NSW Govt. Office of Environment & Herritage website.
At council we are increasing our production of renewable energy to reduce costs and greenhouse emissions – you can see how effective these measures are on the Renewable Energy Sites webpage and consider renewable energy for your home or business.

“Reuse” refers finding ways to reduce your impact on resource use by finding new uses for old things, consider reuse before purchasing something new, hold a garage sale for your pre-loved items, donate to a charity or Council's Buy Back Facilities.
Recycling is a great way to reduce waste entering landfill, and the resources used to create new products. The Snowy Monaro Community has made great improvements in the amount of waste going to landfill and the proportion of waste that is recycled (see Monitoring). For information on what you can recycle go to What Can I Recycle link.
