3. Former Cooma-Monaro Heritage Strategy 2014/2017

The purpose of this document is to identify the strategies for the former Cooma-Monaro Shire Council employed to guide heritage management for the financial years 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17. The nine recommendations for local council heritage management have been reviewed and utilised in the preparation of this heritage strategy.

The former Cooma-Monaro Shire Council Heritage Strategy 2014-17 contains a series of objectives designed to ensure the effective management of the Shire’s cultural heritage by working closely with property owners and managers to ensure they are comfortable with heritage procedure and view heritage listing as an asset rather than a constraint.

4. Works of a minor nature

To reduce unnecessary or onerous obligations on owners of heritage property, clause 5.10(3) of the Cooma-Monaro Local Environmental Plan 2013 (LEP) identifies certain circumstances when development consent is not required for works undertaken on heritage items or within a heritage conservation area.

This policy aims to identify ‘works of a minor nature’ and provide guidelines for the maintenance and repair of heritage items, and buildings within a heritage conservation area.

Note: Before undertaking ANY works on a heritage Item, it is recommended that you contact Council for advice.
