Livvi’s Place Playground in Jindabyne ready for visitors with changes complete

A favourite for local families and tourists alike, Livvi’s Place Playground in Jindabyne has received renovations in the form of a soft-fall resurfacing and restoration of wooden structural elements.

Livvi’s Place playgrounds are an initiative of the Touched by Olivia Foundation, formed by two parents following the tragic death of their infant daughter to create inclusive play spaces across Australia. They are a national network of inclusive play spaces, currently at 38 playgrounds and the Jindabyne location is the only one in the Snowy Monaro region (located in Banjo Paterson Park).

The old surface was unable to withstand the extreme seasonal changes and heavy usage seen in the region. To ensure the playground continues to be enjoyed for many years to come, several upgrades and enhancements have been made. The replacement soft-fall material is even more durable, the wooden posts in the climbing area have been restored to a natural finish, and the yellow high-visibility paint, extremely important to children with visual impairments using playgrounds, has been touched-up on the swing-sets.

“Livvi’s Place is a wonderful location for families to spend time together and enjoy our alpine climate, within Banjo Paterson Park,” said Mayor Peter Beer, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.

“Council is proud to have listened to the community and acted on their concerns, with the upgraded Livvi’s Place Playground a great balance of aesthetic, functional and accessible elements.”

In response to public concerns and subsequent playground safety inspections, Snowy Monaro Regional Council undertook remediation works at the playground. Council worked closely with the Touched by Olivia Foundation, community advocates, suppliers and installation contractors to coordinate the resurfacing.

The priority was for works to be completed before the onset of heavy frosts. Final restoration work was completed on Friday 30 April 2021.
