When it comes to designing a playground, there are no better brains in the business to consult than children.

The very ones who will be using a new all abilities playground in Bombala as part of the Stronger Communities Fund Major Projects Program of Works.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council staff were invited to visit students from St Joseph’s Primary School in Bombala last week to listen to a series of presentations on the town’s recreational spaces. The enthusiastic Years 2, 3, and 4 students delivered insightful presentations on playgrounds, a unit of study they are very much enjoying.

The students surveyed a wide-range of demographics to compile data on what locals would like to see in a new recreational space.

Council’s Linda Nicholson, Project Manager, and Jane Kanowski, Recreation and Technical Property Officer, enjoyed interacting with the students.

“It was wonderful meeting the students. Their presentations about playgrounds were fantastic,” Ms Nicholson said.

“A lot of hard work went into their presentations. They should be commended on the efforts they went to.

“We’ll be using the information the students put together as well as further designs the students are completing, to help build a new all abilities playground in Bombala.”

Council staff informed the students of the process required to construct a playground, and left them with a number of educational books and posters to help with their studies.

Council staff are excited to see the final design and 3D models to be developed over Term 4.
