With only a few days left until nominations close for Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s Australia Day Awards, the community is being encouraged to recognise the outstanding contribution individuals, groups and events make to the region.
From the friendly faces running the barbecue at a community event, to those proudly holding their coins buckets aloft, the Snowy Monaro is home to many dedicated volunteers. Their tireless efforts ensure our towns and villages continue being the vibrant communities they are.
Cooma’s Centennial Park will host Council’s official Australia Day Awards ceremony on Friday, January 26, 2018. Snowy Monaro Regional Council administers the Australia Day Awards on behalf of the National Australia Day Council of NSW.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor, John Rooney, is encouraging locals to nominate a worthy individual or community group for an Australia Day Award.
“The Australia Day Awards are a wonderful opportunity to recognise the hard work and lasting contribution volunteers make across the Snowy Monaro,” Mayor Rooney said.
“I look forward to seeing many names put forward for these awards. Often volunteers don’t get the recognition they deserve. The Australia Day Awards are a great way to provide this recognition.”
While official proceedings will be held in Cooma, community groups wishing to host their own Australia Day celebrations may request Council’s support in hosting these events.
