In further efforts to improve the quality of the Bombala water supply, professional divers have removed close to 70 cubic metres of sludge from the town’s water reservoirs.

The Bombala water supply received an extensive clean out recently as divers from Aqualift Specialist Reservoir Maintenance removed 69 cubic metres of sludge residue from two service reservoirs and the clearwell, at the Bombala Water Treatment Plant.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor, John Rooney, said divers have undertaken a thorough cleanout of the main reservoir tank.

"As an interim measure, this much needed cleanout of the main reservoir tank, means that we now know this tank is perfectly clean,” Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor John Rooney said.

“Along with other recent measures, such as the $800,000 spent last year on the water treatment plant, this is a step forward for Bombala's water supply."

Council is taking additional measurers to continue improving Bombala’s water supply with another contractor engaged to clean the town’s water mains. This work is currently underway and residents should notice ongoing improvements in the colour and turbidity of their water.
