Snowy Monaro Regional Council has received the ‘Choose to Reuse’ award, recognising the way Council and the Snowy Monaro community embraced the nationwide reuse program, Garage Sale Trail.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council is one of just 14 councils to receive an award for participating in the Garage Sale Trail, which is supported by 150 councils and groups across the nation.
“This award is the result of a committed and passionate approach to the project by the Council staff involved," Co-Founder of Garage Sale Trail, Darryl Nichols, said.
"Through their involvement and promotion of the program, Snowy Monaro Regional Council demonstrated great leadership in sustainability and reuse and ultimately helped make this year's Garage Sale Trail such a success both locally and nationally.”
Last year, more than 50 households and community organisations throughout the Snowy Monaro took part in the Garage Sale Trail weekend.
“We had 56 events take place in the local community on October 20, and 21, with thousands shopping the trail,” Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor, John Rooney, said.
Council’s Resource and Waste Education Officers, Belinda Ingram and Edwina Lowe, and Digital Media Officer Tobi Varcoe played a key role in engaging the community with the 2018 Garage Sale Trail.
“Well done to the Council staff involved for their work in organising and promoting the event, and well done to the community for supporting the Garage Sale Trail.”
