Snowy Monaro Regional Council to replace Bombala, Cooma Monaro and Snowy River local government areas.

After months of anticipation, the State Government has finally announced their amalgamation decision, which will see Snowy River merge with Bombala and Cooma Monaro Councils. The Snowy Monaro Regional Council will replace the three current local government areas.

“While it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to the Snowy River Shire, our rich history and renowned identity, I remain optimistic. With change comes the opportunity to build a new entity from the ground up. Taking the best features from each council forward, creating a Shire to best service the community into the future”, explained General Manager, Joseph Vescio.

Council will be providing regular updates to the community throughout the transitional period to minimise disruptions and delays to the community.

“We have already been busy working with our neighbouring councils to ensure that if the NSW Government proceeded with the proposed mergers we would be ready and able to transition to a new entity with limited disruptions to service delivery to our communities. We have a massive task ahead of us, I am reassured that my capable staff have the knowledge and skills to overcome any challenges that we may be faced over the coming months”.
