Garage Sale Trail success across the Snowy Monaro Region

Participation in the 10th annual National Garage Sale Trail, one of Australia’s biggest sustainability and community events, may have been down due to COVID-19 restrictions but some great results were recorded with 5001 events in NSW alone.

The event, which took place on the weekend of 13-14 November 2020, included 192 virtual sales and 1697 people participated in new online trail tutorial workshops.

Across the Snowy Monaro region, an estimated 12,600kg of quality pre-loved goods were rehomed over the weekend. A total of 41 (33 individuals and 8 groups) registered face to face sales from Jindabyne to Cooma and beyond, compared to our 2019 participation totalling 49. Well done to everyone involved in our region, buyers and sellers alike.

Mayor Peter Beer commented: “Garage Sale Trail is a fun campaign with a serious message. It’s about encouraging reuse and reducing waste, enabling local community connections and providing a platform for fundraising. Council is proud to play a part in making this important national initiative possible in the local area.”

Garage Sale Trail is supported by the Environment Protection Authority and local councils across the country. The event advocates for the responsible disposal of any unwanted items all year round and encourages the community to ‘Choose to Reuse”.

“Buying and selling second hand is one easy thing we can all do to reduce our impact,” said Edwina Lowe, Council’s Resource and Waste Education Officer.

You can pre-register now for the 2021 Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 November at https://www.garagesaletrail.com.au/Snowy-Monaro-Regional
