Due to recent rains, turbidity levels (muddy water) have increased in Lake Jindabyne at the intake and has now exceeded levels acceptable to NSW Health. Levels are being actively monitored by Council and reported back to NSW Health.

We are now going onto a Boil Water Alert (BWA), effective immediately. This applies to Jindabyne, Lakewood, Leesville, High Country and the Station Resort where drinking water is now unsafe.

Pumps were turned off yesterday at the Jindabyne intake and in order to pump again, we need to go to a Boil Water Alert to ensure water supply in the Jindabyne area.

Please note that East Jindabyne and Kalkite areas are not affected by this.

Please see attached poster and circulate with your community networks.

Water used for drinking or food preparation should be brought to a rolling boil to make it safe. Kettles with automatic shut off switches can do this. Water should then be allowed to cool and stored in a clean container with a lid and refrigerated.

Bottled water or cool boiled water should be used for drinking, washing uncooked food (e.g. salad vegetables and fruit), making ice, cleaning teeth, gargling and pet’s drinking water. Dishes should be washed in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher.

This advice should be followed until further notice.
