Council Pounds

Council has impounding facilities in Berridale, Bombala and Cooma. If you have lost a companion animal (dog or cat) or if you have received correspondence from Council to let you know we have your companion animal please phone 1300 345 345 to speak with one of our Rangers.

Before collecting your companion animal you will need to undertake the following:

  • Phone our Rangers to discuss the impounding fees. This may include microchipping, registration, and release fees.
  • The fees must be paid in full before your animal can be released, you can complete payment by attending any of our office locations.
  • You will be asked to bring proof of ownership and provide identification, this may require you to complete a Stat Dec.
  • Once payment and all paperwork has been completed, you will need to arrange an appointment with a Ranger to collect your companion animal. Please note the pound facilities are only open during Council’s business hours.

In some instances you may receive penalty infringement notices for breaches of State legislation. The circumstances surrounding the seizure of the animal(s) and the history of the matter will ultimately dictate if additional penalties are warranted.
