Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC)

The Snowy Monaro Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) is convened, and exercises its legislative functions under the provisions of the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989 (SERM Act).

The LEMC is responsible for preparing plans in relation to the prevention of, preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies within the LGA.

Responsibilities of the LEMC

  • Prepare and review plans relating to the prevention of, preparation for, response to, and recovery from emergencies in the Snowy Monaro LGA
  • Give effect to, carry out, review and monitor emergency management policy and practice
  • Develop and conduct local emergency management training exercises
  • Support local emergency management capability through inter-agency co-ordination, co-operation and information sharing

Membership of the LEMC

  • A senior representative of Council who is the chair of the LEMC
  • The Local Emergency Operations Controller (LEOCON)
  • The Local Emergency Management Officer (LEMO)
  • Regional Emergency Management Officer (REMO)
  • Local representative of each of the emergency services organisations operating in the Snowy Monaro
  • Functional areas (a group of agencies that provide services around a specific area of expertise involved in emergency management)

Local Emergency Management Plan (EMPLAN)

The Local EMPLAN is developed by the LEMC and is designed to produce arrangements that provide the basis for managing emergency impacts in the Snowy Monaro Region.
