Project background

In Early 2022 NSW Rural Fire Service had obtained $8.5M in funding from the NSW Government funding, NSW Bushfire Inquiry and the lessons learnt from the 2019-20 Bushfires, and the Rural Fire Fighting Fund (RFFF), for the development of a new Fire Control Centre in the Monaro District. 

The Fire Control Centre (FCC) will be constructed to the current NSW Rural Fire Service standard FCC design and will incorporate the following facilities;

  • New access road off Geebung Street: currently constructing, June 2025
  • Power upgrades and street lighting
  • The establishment and connection of building services
  • Standard RFS FCC building comprising of;
    • General office for Monaro District
    • Training centre and emergency operations centre
    • RFS operations, planning and logistics rooms
    • Building amenities and meals areas for up to 100 people
    • 20m radio communications tower
  • Mitigation and district stores building
  • Helicopter hanger with take-off landing pad
  • Training pad, internal access roads and carparking for up to 100 vehicles
  • Perimeter fencing and landscaping

Project services phases

  • Phase 1 Site feasibility and investigations - completed April 2023
  • Phase 2 Concept design and planning approval - completed May 2024
  • Phase 3 Detailed design and documentation - completed in August 2024
  • Phase 4 Construction procurement/inclusion of access road - completed April 2025
  • Phase 5 Construction: IN PROGRESS - due for completion June 2026
