Traineeships, Apprenticeships and Cadetships (TACs) are important components of Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s (SMRC) commitment to our community. Council's employment pathway programs contribute to the continued growth of the region’s economy through investment in skill building. As one of the area’s largest employers, we offer a range of opportunities through this program.

Traineeships

Traineeships are between 1-3 years depending on industry qualification and combine work-based training and formal training from a Registered Training Provider. They're a great way to be paid for work while earning a qualification.

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are between 3-4 years learning a traditional trade and combine work-based training and formal training from a Registered Training Provider. They're a great way to be paid for work while earning a qualification.

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT)

School based apprenticeships and traineeships give students an opportunity to commence an apprenticeship or traineeship while at school. They gain valuable work skills and experience through paid part-time employment. In a more detailed sense than work placements, SBATs offer career insights, set decisions about ongoing training and study, assists workplace employability and resilience. It’s worth noting, not all SBAT’s can be commenced as a TAC.

Work Experience

School-based work experience helps secondary students explore the world of work, identify career options and pathways, and build career development skills. It supports students to gain career development skills and provides opportunities for students to ‘taste’ the world of work through one-off events, initiatives such as enterprise learning, or spending time in a real or simulated workplace.

Cadetships

Cadetships are supportive pathways to careers involving university study. It is a great way to get paid employment and hands on experience in your field while completing your university studies.

Work Placement

Work Placement is a planned opportunity that enables students studying particular industry-based courses to practise and develop their industry competencies and their employability skills in a vibrant real work context.  Work Placement is mandatory for Vocational Education & Training (VET) courses.
