Project update: Major works at Cooma Pool begin
Published on 21 July 2025
Site preparations for the Cooma Pool Upgrade Project are complete, with major demolition and construction work underway from Monday 21 July 2025.
This main phase of the project consists of two stages:
- Stage One
- Demolition of old pump room and removal of old filtration system
- Stage Two
- Construction of new pump room
- Installation of new water filtration equipment
- Replacement of pool shell (relining)
- Pool depth reduction
- Pool edge upgrade
Council received the construction certificate for the project last week. The wait for this final regulatory approval – issued by an external certifier – was much longer than expected.
With major work on the project beginning this week, Cooma Pool is on-track to reopen by late November or early December 2025.
As we shared in our June 2025 project update, the swim season will be extended if work isn’t complete by the usual reopening date. Our commitment to extending the swim season hasn't changed, and the upgraded Cooma Pool will open for a full-length swim season in 2025.
Since our last update, Council’s contractor has completed the site preparations required before the main demolition and construction work can begin.
Over the past several weeks, crews have safely relocated local utilities away from the worksite, and disconnected the facility’s electricity and solar power system.
Council appreciates the community’s continued patience. We look forward to welcoming local swimmers back to Cooma Pool from late November or early December 2025.
Project updates will continue as work progresses over the coming months. We will make an announcement once the season opening date is confirmed.
