Sunday 7 August 2022 was Aged Care Employee Day and we celebrated our local aged care heroes last week on Thursday and Friday at Snowy River Hostel and Yallambee Lodge.

The theme this year is #ThanksforCaring and we’re encouraging everyone in our community to take a moment to reflect on the invaluable contribution aged care workers have made over the last two and a half years.

It has been no secret that with COVID-19, lockdowns, and industry-wide worker shortages it has been a very tough period for everyone working in the industry.

To everyone working in aged care, on behalf of Council and our community: thank you for caring. You are there for our most vulnerable community members in their time of need, providing care, support, companionship and understanding when and where it is needed most.

Those that choose to work in aged care are the embodiment of what it means to be a community, and we would be so much less without them and their efforts.

As a very small token of our appreciation, Council hosted morning tea sessions at the end of last week with employees and residents at Yallambee Lodge and Snowy River Hostel.

Council owns and operates Yallambee Lodge, Snowy River Hostel and provides community care and services through the Werri-Nina Centre in Cooma. Council’s services are complemented by the long list of private-sector and not-for-profit providers of residential, community and in-home care and support.
