Snowy Monaro Regional Library is pleased to announce the return of National Simultaneous Storytime at Cooma Library on Wednesday 25 May 2022 at 11am.

This annual event is thanks to the Australian Library and Information Association, with Australian books read simultaneously across the country in libraries, schools, and in countless other places.

This year’s book is Family Tree by beloved Australian musician Josh Pyke. The book tells the story of a neighbourhood tree that brings families and communities together, with beautiful illustrations by Ronojoy Ghosh.

Now in its 22nd year, the event’s goal of promoting literacy and a love of literature in our kids is not only a great initiative, but a wonderful event for kids and parents alike.

2021 was the biggest year yet for the event, with 1.98 million registered participants from over 33,418 locations reading Give me some space! by Philip Bunting. That’s 1 in 12 people in Australia reading together at once.

National Simultaneous Storytime aims to:

  • promote the value of reading and literacy,
  • promote the value and fun of books,
  • promote an Australian writer and publisher,
  • promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country,
  • and provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion

Whether you come join in at Cooma Library on the day, or from home, or anywhere else – we encourage you all to pick up the book and enjoy the tale.
